Cantors
While there's no place in the liturgy for the display of virtuosity for its own sake, artistry is valued, and an individual singer can effectively lead the assembly, attractively proclaim the Word of God in the psalm sung between the readings, and take his or her part in other responsorial singing. The cantor, first and foremost, is responsible for singing the chants between the readings, the gradual and Alleluia, or other chants. The cantor is most often, also, the leader of songs whose task it is to lead and support the faithful as far as is needed. The cantors here at Christ the King work with the accompanist, whose task it is to select the music and inform the cantor. Each musician comes to church prepared to lead the congregation in song.
Cantors are needed for the 5:00 PM Saturday Vigil Mass, the 8:00 AM Sunday Mass, and the 9:30 AM Sunday Mass (during the months of June-August). Call Donna at 943-6183 or email at horstmanmd@charter.net
